Women's Academy of Excellence
Our Story
The Women’s Academy of Excellence opened in 2004 as a single gender, uniformed learning environment with a private school feeling. Affectionately referred to as the WAE, the mission of the Women's Academy of Excellence is to create a community of lifelong learners and leaders, where students' intellectual curiosity and creativity is nurtured, and their developmental needs as teenagers are met to their individual satisfaction.
WAE is comprised of scholars, teachers, administrators, parents and community leaders. Together, we offer a dynamic, interdisciplinary learning environment, exposing scholars to a rigorous college preparatory curriculum. As a result, the scholars experience great success on many levels, as they specialize in the fields of Math, Science and Social Change. Through a strong partnership with parents, caretakers and guardians, the school organizes and initiates collaborative projects to instill values, ethical principles of behavior and sound judgment in each and every scholar. In this way, it is ensured that scholars excel scholastically, socially and emotionally; and are able to achieve success throughout high school and when they enter college. Our expectation is that the scholars will be leaders in school and in their communities as well, which we support by requiring 200 hours of community service prior to graduation.
WAE is proud to be affiliated with and supported by the following organizations: L’Oreal, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc. (AAOZ chapter), Montefiore Hospital, Lehman College, Monroe College, Kechie's Project, Girls Inc., and Kweens Code.
